BAYSWATER ROAD, London - BESPOKE INTERNAL HOIST INSTALLATION
Overview
Archis Hoist Solutions was approached by the main contractor to deliver a bespoke vertical access solution within a restricted lift shaft for an internal renovation project in Bayswater. With a tight shaft opening of just 1.9m x 1.6m, no standard hoist could be used without modification.
To overcome this, we adapted an Alimak TPL-500 to fit the space. Working with our specialist fabricator, the hoist car was resized to just 1.8m x 1.5m, allowing for only 50mm of clearance on all sides while remaining fully operational. Additional customisation included trimming down the hoist gates and floor panels to suit the tight envelope.
Following thorough testing and certification, the modified hoist was delivered and installed using a platform aligned to floor level and a beam hoist to lower the system into the shaft.

Special Design Considerations
This project required a non-standard solution due to the extreme spatial limitations of the existing lift shaft. Standard Alimak dimensions would not allow for installation or safe operation. Every part of the hoist had to be evaluated and adjusted while still complying with operational safety requirements.
The installation also required precise coordination between structural layout and mechanical handling, including the use of a beam hoist and temporary platform infrastructure to position the hoist from above and lower it safely into the building core.
